Agitators for a new OEM paint production plant
Geppert Rührtechnik GmbH has made a decisive contribution to process and production efficiency for a newly constructed, highly automated OEM paint production plant belonging to an international paint manufacturer. The modern plant sets new standards in terms of digitalization, sustainability, and process stability. The agitators play a central role in this, enabling precise, reproducible, and energy-efficient manufacturing processes.
Technical equipment and performance data
As part of this project, a total of 34 agitators and one tripod agitator were delivered, installed, and optimized for the process.
The mixers supplied cover a wide range of applications within paint production and offer outputs of up to 30 kW. They were designed for maximum process reliability, high product quality, and robust, long-term stable operation in multi-shift operation.

CFD-based optimization with Think Fluid Dynamix®
As part of the project planning, several of the larger agitators were comprehensively simulated and optimized using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). This enabled:
- Optimal flow and mixing conditions
- Minimization of hot spots and dead zones
- Reduction of energy requirements through flow-optimized impellers
- Precise design for different viscosity ranges
- Development of a safety concept
A particularly innovative result of the CFD-supported optimization was the development of a safety concept that made it possible to implement six 30 kW mixers without explosion-proof drives and sealing systems. This led to cost savings in the six-figure range for the plant operator, while maintaining a high level of operational safety.
